Look of the Day: Plaid Shirt Dress & Coach Bucket Bag

By far one of my favorite Value Village finds, this dress makes me feel cool enough to be in Ferris Bueller. I'm now always on the look out for 80s-era plaids similar to this one.

The Coach was in immaculate condition when I found it at Crossroads Trading but of course I've put a few miles on it. It's rare and the cognac leather just a shade darker than the classic English Tan. The minute I saw it on the wall behind the cash register, I knew it was going in the collection. It was a steal at $35!

Fleur d'Elise Personal Styling

style, spring, fashion styling, services, fleur d'elise, peony, pattern mixing, keaton row
I'm so excited to announce that I am now offering free personal styling services!

Thanks to Brand Backer, I've discovered an awesome new outlet for my fashion passion. The company is called Keaton Row and they specialize in 100% online personal styling services. It reminds me of Polyvore, but unlike Polyvore, it encourages me to be a bit more social. I actually have to interact with people and think about how they might feel about something. So hard in this age of "Me, Myself, and I", right? Just kidding! Styling is what I really want to be doing and this is definitely sending me in the right direction! I'm a bit shy in person and always worried about my mind going blank and my tongue going dumb, so starting my styling biz online is a great way to get some practice explaining to clients why I think this dress or those shoes would look fab on them.

Since my first two clients are people I knew, it's been easy putting together outfits, since I had at least a good idea of their personal style outside of the style profile they filled out. They're both lovely ladies with distinct tastes. My friend Jen cursed me for picking out so many things she likes, which I guess is a compliment, haha.

My sister's lookbook was the most fun to put together since I didn't have to be super serious. It was exciting picking out clothes to go with her amazing post-baby body. She joined her college's crew team last year and deserves, at least, an entirely new wardrobe for all the hard work she's put in. Right now I'm working on another lookbook that just includes outfits for her trip to Hawaii after she graduates this Spring.

The best part about Keaton Row's program is that it's FREE. Yup, you don't have to pay me or them! I work on commission, so the only thing you have to pay for are the clothes, if you decide to buy them. So what's stopping you? Go sign up! I would love for you to be my newest client :)

crewneck chic: how to style a sweatshirt

how to style, fall fashion, what i wore, sport luxe, pixie cut, seattle street style
You can't deny it, crewneck sweatshirts are the epitome of relaxed casual. It might seem like they would be the farthest from fashionable, but their simplicity makes them the perfect edition to any outfit on any day. With the right styling, they're even appropriate for the office.

Here are 4 tips on how to style this classic piece:

1. For work, layer a sweatshirt over a collared shirt for a preppy look.

2. Stick to a size that fits similarly to the way a crewneck sweater would.
Not too baggy, but not skin tight.

3. Look for sweatshirts in the kid's department!
If you're 5'6" or under, or particularly slender, buy your sweatshirt from the kid's department. The length will be a little shorter and the sleeves will be a little more flattering. They're usually cheaper, too. Land's End carries a classic sweatshirt for only $20 which comes in 3 different fits and 21 different sizes! According to the sizing chart, the regular XL will fit up to 174 lbs!

4. Treat a simple grey sweatshirt like a blank canvas.
Pile on those glitzy necklaces and bracelets, don some bright lipstick, and layer on as many layers as the weather permits. The sweatshirt will remain a subtle anchor no matter what direction your styling goes.

"Schrank" is a German word for a grey crewneck sweatshirt.

Look of the Day: Floral Maxi

in style, floral maxi dress, seattle street style, fall fashion
I redeemed this beautiful dress from Last Night using my Chic Points on Chictopia. That's right, it was absolutely free! And it came with this lovely handwritten note from Stephanie, the fashion brains behind Last Night. I feel really lucky to be one of the first to wear something from the site.
The site is so new, I had never even heard of it until I redeemed the dress. I just went on gut instinct. I liked what I saw, so snatched it up! Now, I'm trying to decide on the next piece to get from Last Night! I'm leaning heavily towards this white maxi dress. There is just something about a white maxi dress, and I love that the pleats run the entire length of the dress. It's the same for this floral one I'm wearing the photos. Pleats create the nicest movement and flow. Honestly, I'm just in love with it. I was a little apprehensive about the one-shoulder, but now it doesn't even matter. I'm hooked.

Look of the Day: little old lady

My hair has kind of gone over the platinum edge and is now is blue-gray country. I quite like it. I was feeling cheap, so decided to dye it myself, instead of going back to my stylist. She told me "I hope it doesn't turn orange!" She was WRONG. It's blue. Shows what she knows!

I am now, head to toe, the same color as my apartment building. Hurrah. I should use my property manager powers to have them paint the building a cool new color. I have grown weary of this one. It probably won't happen, though.

Colorful Poppies - Kukat - Valokuvatapetit - Photowall, €9

Phew, what a month! I have been working at least twice as much as usual and have barely had time for anything else. Unavoidably, my blog has been quite neglected. This week I am nannying 10 hours a day, which has actually given me some time to brainstorm some blog entries, including this one.

I have been wanting to feature Ashley for a while and I'm happy to finally introduce you to her (assuming you haven't read her wonderful blog beforehand!). She is one of those girls who you just know will go quite far in the blogging world. She's gorgeous, friendly and sociable, and of course has amazing style!

Many of her looks draw inspiration from classic, feminine fashions. She has a talent for styling clothes from various sources, including designer, discount, and vintage. This flexibility and her styling know-how gives each outfit a unique and completely personal look. Her vintage and thrifted pieces are all lovely and some of them can be purchased via her Etsy store.

What are you waiting for? Go check out her BLOG and add her on Chictopia!

Personal Style

As much as I love things like draped styles and ankle boots, they just don't flatter my figure. I am more suited for classic looks. Crisp whites, sleek pencil skirts, feminine silhouettes; blues, blacks, grays, all are more flattering than any post modern ensemble I could create. That is where styling comes in. I need to find models and photo shoots so that I may live vicariously. I need to start putting myself out there more. It shouldn't be hard with a friend like Ashley Chanel who is a professional model and muse. I've worked with her before, but have never flat-out styled her. I've brought items for her to choose from when we walked in a small show together, but that was rather passive styling. It's time to start moving!

About the shirt: I keep cutting things off this shirt. The sleeves are long gone, and then a month ago I decide to crop it. I got half way done and liked the tail so much that I left it.
