Look of the Day: Striped Sun Dress & A Picnic Basket

The day I took these photos it was 70 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT. I had the day off and it was just heavenly! I got my hair did, went thrift shopping, then had a "picnic" at Whole Foods. When Trevor comes home for a visit, I'm gonna pack up my new picnic basket (it fits wine bottles perfectly) and drag him to Golden Gardens. That is, if this weather sticks around!

I've been so bummed out this past year, but I'm finally feeling like myself again. My vitamin D & magnesium levels were low, so I'm fixing that with supplements and more time outside. My doctor also has me on a low dose of anti-depressants for heart palpitations. Scary right?? The doctor took one look at me, though, and was like "I can tell you, it's not your heart. It's anxiety." They did an EKG anyway and it was totally normal. I'll take anxiety over a heart problem any day! Now I need to focus on self-care.

I'm hoping to be done with doctor visits for a while. It's Spring and it's time for adventure!

Look of the Day: Double Denim & A Hat!

Well, I think this is the last time I'll wear these mom jeans. They're too big, which is a pain. It takes so much work to find pants and jeans that fit me the right way. Maybe if I just track down a smaller size, but they're vintage so that's easier said than done.

I've been getting sick a lot. I feel like I go to the doctor once a week. It's more obnoxious than anything, though. Lordy, I need a vacation! Trevor and I are thinking Palm Springs in June. Have you been? Also, I'll probably go visit Trevor in the Bay Area at the beginning of next month. I can't wait!

The top is courtesy of Oasap. I love the little white polka dots!

Fleur d'Elise At Home: Spring Cleaning with Essential Oils

Here in Seattle, the trees have been in bloom for weeks, and on sunny days, it almost feels like Spring. For at least an hour, you can have windows open or wear short sleeves without experience goosebumps. Call me old fashioned, but it's almost enough inspiration to do some spring cleaning!

Thanks to BrandBacker I got to partner with Insta Natural again to test out their peppermint & lemon essential oils. In return, I wrote two reviews on Amazon and this blog post.

First things first: the bottles are huge! Four ounces is a lifetime supply of peppermint oil! The dropper makes it easy to count out drops, but the rubber at the top doesn't prevent the potent peppermint smell from seeping out. It got a little overwhelming so I have to store it in a hallway closet

Tips for Use:

Home: Peppermint oil is said to be antibacterial and is a natural pest-deterrent. When cleaning window sills, add several drops to a mix of water & vinegar to deter mildew and bugs!

Health: Peppermint oil is great for sore muscles, but make sure it's well diluted before use! If used in baths, add to the water after you've filled the tub & gotten in.

Aromatherapy: To freshen up your home, I really love plug-in aromatherapy diffusers. Natural home fragrance without the risk of fire! My favorite combination is peppermint & bergamot.

The lemon oil comes in the same 4 oz. size, but I use so much of it, I don't think it will last as long as the peppermint. It smells so delicious!

Tips for use:

Home: Lemon oil is another great one for cleaning! Add it to all-purpose natural cleaners or apply drops directly to furniture to ward of insects. It can also be a great deterrent if you're trying to keep your pets off the furniture! Just make sure you put it in inconspicuous places, because it can stain.

Health: Combine 2 drops lemon oil and 6 drops argan oil for a leave-in scalp treatment. I usually massage it in at night and then wash it out in the morning.

Aromatherapy: Apply 3 drops lemon, 2 drops lavender, and 2 drops chamomile oil to a plug-in diffuser for a Spring scented home!

Look of the Day: Polka Dots & Peacock Silk

Big news! Well, at least for me! My husband landed a new job in San Francisco! It's only temporary, though, so I won't be moving. But it does mean more traveling for me! He'll be there till November and I plan on flying down once a month. I'm thrilled about the adventuring, but not so much about all the time apart. How have you handled a long-distance relationship? I know people do it all the time, so I'd love to hear any tips you might have!

About the outfit. I've been wearing this pretty regularly, except with one change: the top. I have two very similar silk blouses, but one is a tad greener. Since they're so similar, I've decided to sell one; the nicer one! It's from Classiques for Nordstrom, and if you're interested, you can find more info about it here!
