vacations are so tiring

I spent all week on my mom's farm. It was so tiring.

Playing with my niece, eating croissants every day (really good, locally made ones), playing Drawsome with my sister, going to the Olympia Farmer's Market, etc. You get the idea; it was a really strenuous week.

So today I recuperated by going to acupuncture and having lunch at my favorite cafe here in Seattle, Cafe Presse. The cafe was full of  chattering diners and bright April sunlight. I enjoyed a cup or two (or three) of the strong chocolately Vita coffee they serve and munched on grilled sardines and a fresh baguette. The latest issue of Marie Claire kept me company.

And now for Friday's Fashion Fact. Today it's a new word that keeps popping up in magazines.

Soigné

adj. -\swän-ˈyā\-
(As defined by Merriam-Webster)

1. Well-groomed, sleek
2. Elegantly maintained or designed

Glad I looked it up cuz I woulda pronounced it "Soy-nay"

Twee

I've been very busy crafting. That is the one blessing that has come from my feet problems. I'm finally working on arts and crafts projects! I'm even getting around to projects that have been waiting on me for years. I've been obsessed with felting. It's way easier than I thought it would be and I actually have the patience for it, unlike sewing. I made a whole bunch of little animals for Christmas presents (ex. my sister got an otter and my grandma got an english Robin) and now I'm working on a project that I'm hoping will someday become a book. I can't tell you what it is yet, because I don't want anyone stealing my idea, haha.

As for the outfit, I was happy to finally style the little yellow blouse you see peeking out of the sweater. It's from Lulu's but I was lucky enough to get it for free on Chictopia. They have a great rewards program! I didn't even have to pay shipping. Actually, this outfit was very cheap! The blouse was free, as was the skirt and belt! I am a lucky-duck, and I feel I should share some of my luck. Keep your eyes open for a giveaway coming in the next week or so!!

out to sea

I won't keep you long this time, as I have a horrible migraine. Brain function at diminished capacity... Probably wake up blind tomorrow... Obviously a hypochondriac.

This is another dress that belonged to my husband's grandmother. You can read the full story here. It's one of my favorites and I only wish it wasn't so fragile.

Happy Friday!

Grumpy-pants

So I finally have stuff to post and it's been like a bazillion years, but does my internet want to cooperate? NOOOO SIR! Also, I am sooo grumpy, but it is because I'm stressed. My poor boyfriend. He came home last night and I just whined about money and then started crying because I hated my legs more than usual. Then I would just get mad when he would try to comfort me, because deep down I knew I was being ridiculous! Pity Parties really only have one guest, and that guest is yourself.

BUT I am a little bit more cheerful, because I finally had a chance to take pictures! I actually took pictures two days in a row! I will probably post again tonight, after I have dinner with my Dear Ashley. Going to one of my favorite places: Rosebud on Capitol Hill. Capitol Hill is probably Center Of The Universe #2. London is Center Of The Universe #1

About the outfit. I've been wearing this new tweed jacket like 3+ times a week. It fits so perfectly!! Found the shorts at a swap meet in Houston. They came with a jacket, but I decided it was too big, so I swapped it on Chictopia.com. Now I have to ship it to Japan :(

Zut alors! What is zis?

“Oui, I am French, but only zees much. Et oui, I do look like a cartoon of a French person, merci.”

But seriously folks, my mom was born in Domremy. She was baptized in the same church as Joan of Arc. Perhaps my mother wore this same outfit as a school uniform. I shall ask her.

I want to name my children very French names, all ending in 'i' or 'e', but my boyfriend will not have it. We have compromised on very English names like Phillipa and Henry with a 'y'. At least I have a little niece named Mathilde, after my very-french great-great grandmother.

I found two of these perfect berets at an estate sale. Both 100% wool, both made in the Czech Republic. One is black, one is red, what else could you need?
