Look of the Day: Cozy Brown Cardigan and Black Dress

Pretty sweet deal, especially since most of their styles are more on the minimalist side, which is what I'm into right now. I wanted a dress, but had a bit of trouble finding things that weren't disastrously short. While I love the look of mini dresses on other people, they're not for me. Plus, I wanted something to wear to work. I settled on True Love Strapless Midi Dress and the Snuggly Mornings Cardigan. The dress looks great but is secretly a mini dress. You really can't move without showing off your underwear because the wrap is only secured in one place: above your boobs. It's basically like trying to wear a towel. I might try it with some little black bike shorts on a day I don't have to work. It's just such a pretty style!

The cardigan I love 100%. It's still a little warm to wear it, but at least I know it'll be cozy once the cold weather arrives! I just adore the color, too.

Look of the Day: Duck Tails & Camel Plaid

Happy November! It's one of my favorite times of the year. The holidays are just getting started and Seattle is so pretty! Today was foggy and chilly, so Trevor and I took Otto for a walk around Greenwood. Later this week, I'll post a new set of photos for my Autumn in Seattle series. I missed out on the series last year. There was just too many other (not fun) things to focus on. I'm doing so much better this year, though, so stay tuned for some lovely Fall photos!

 I'm in love with this 1960s reversible wool coat. It's a little big on me, so I've decided to list it on Etsy. If it doesn't sell, I won't be too upset ;)

 The duck sweater is also for sale. It's one of those dorky ultra-WASPy ones from the early 90s. It fits so perfectly, especially considering how chunky the knit is.

Look of the Day: Fall Basics

A cozy sweater and vintage denim are all I need. Luckily, I have a lot of both, so the items I'm wearing in this look are up for grabs in my Etsy shop.

The jeans are vintage Levi's 501s and the sweater is made from lambswool and angora. It's so soft!

Man, I cannot think of anything to write. Not that I ever have tons to say! I'll just keep it short today. Three out of five of the items I'm wearing are thrifted. The jeans, the shawl collar coat, and the Madewell shirt! My coat closet is exploding.

Look of the Day: Plaid Coat & Oasap Blouse

Every season, there are certain pieces I can't stop wearing. This coat is one of them, and this eyeglass patterned blouse from my sponsor, Oasap, is the newest piece. (Not shown: a thrifted Blumarine men's sweater I took off only for these photos. I live in it)

 There's something so graphically pleasing about eyeglass frames.

I just had my haircut refreshed at the Toni&Guy academy here in Seattle (yeah, I get my cut & color done at a school!). The lovely lady who cut my hair, Anita, is quite talented. Of course she's graduating next month! Luckily, she has a blog (So She Did) so I can at least keep in touch, even if I won't be able to afford to get my haircuts from her anymore. She's gonna go someplace fancy and expensive, I just know it.

Unintended Hiatus

Oh my, where has my brain been? At work I suppose. I was promoted to shift supervisor, which means my workload has increased, blah blah blah. It also doesn't help that I lost my camera charger at some point this past month. It is no where to be found which is beyond frustrating. I ordered a replacement and it could not get here soon enough. I have tons of stuff I need to list on Etsy! 

 At least I have these photos I took for Etsy to share with you. I listed the zodiac portfolio last week and my sister told me to take it down almost immediately because she was buyin' it. Portfolio and girl were officially united last night. As for the coat, it's the newest moth-eaten addition to my coat collection. It's technically a sweater, I guess. It's made from lambswool that is so soft I don't even care about the nibbles at the bottom.

Look of the Day: Leopard Print Skirt & Pastel Peplum

 This ruffled top I found in the Anthropologie sale is the first purple thing I've ever bought based on the fact that it's purple! It's barely purple, but it still counts right? I love the loose fit and the eyelet detailing. It looks so cute with jeans and all shades of brown and blue.

Look of the Day: Fawn & Red

Last Spring, I had the chance to style my friend, Ashley, for a shoot. This was my first time styling someone else, which was pretty exciting. Especially because she's actually a professional model! She's one of the newest faces over at Baby & Co., which is a super chic local boutique located downtown. When my schedule allows for it, I get to spend the day with her darling little boy while she goes to her modeling gigs. It's all pretty fun, especially since they're both such wonderful souls.

 In these shots, Ashley is wearing a vintage sweater by Illustrations and a pair of vintage high-waisted wool slacks by Moschery. The top is her own. Both the sweater and the slacks are part of my Autumn Fashion section on Etsy.

Look of the Day: Kimono & Sheinside Jumpsuit

Sheinside sent me this awesome jumpsuit months ago, right in the middle of our summer heat. The last thing I wanted to do was put on pants, so I put the jumpsuit in my closet and promptly forgot about it. Luckily, the Sheinside team was very patient with me and just sent me an email last week asking if I'd gotten it. I feel awful for forgetting, but better late than never! The style is a little more Autumn-y, anyway.

 I love the color and the fabric, but it fits really small and the measurements for this one weren't available when I ordered it. Thankfully, you can't tell just how tight certain areas are, haha. One thing that fits perfectly is the bodice and the straps. As a petite person, it's nearly impossible to find anything with slim straps that aren't miles long. Really, I think this is the first spaghetti strap thing I've actually been able to wear! They're out of this exact jumpsuit, but they are carrying this burgundy jumpsuit, that is pretty much the same thing. This navy version is also really cute!

Look of the Day: Fall Tie Dye

It's amazing how one little spelling error can affect your entire concept of something. For instance, tie dye. I have been spelling it "tye dye" for years. Thanks to Google, though, that spelling error has been remedied and I've created new pathways in my brain! It's named after the process! I finally get it. I am a bloody genius #NotAGenius.

Here are some tips for wearing tie dye:

1. Avoid multi-colored tie dyes and go for neutral and monochromatic palettes

2. Pair with crisp menswear pieces for a perfectly juxtaposed outfit

3. Use it when pattern mixing! The organic randomness pairs nicely with strict stripes or preppy polka dots

I'm not sure why, but these sunglasses are up for grabs on my Etsy shop. They're super cool. It's hard to part with them. They're American Optical, from the 1960's, and feature heavy-duty hardware, flexi fit temples and a classic Wayfarer shape. Go buy them before I decide to keep them!

Look of the Day: Electric Blue & Autumn Rust

 Choies sent me this beautiful coat to style and it's gonna be so perfect when the weather gets grayer and the trees lose all their leaves. It will really brighten my winter!

The detail that really sold me on the coat  was the abstract shapes embossed all over.

Look of the Day: Fall Preview

A couple months ago, Redbook contacted me again and invited me to be part of their September issue. I was lucky enough to make it into the article about pattern mixing for Fall. It was a challenge as a lot of the obvious mixes had already been taken care of. Stripes & polka dots woulda been a cinch for me, but I was given the challenge of combining herringbone with animal print. I didn't think I owned any herringbone, but it turns out this herringbone plaid cape counts! 

I found the cape at an amazing estate sale in the earlier part of this year. It was like I was walking through my own estate sale in the future. There were piles as tall as me; all clothes. Tons of stripes, polka dots, and classic pieces, like this cape. I joked with my husband that it's what will happen if he dies before me. I will have nothing to do but spend his money.

The blouse is from another estate sale that I went to in West Seattle. I think it's quite possibly my favorite piece I've bought this year. I wear it so much and I love how unexpected the color looks with most other colors. It will be perfect for Fall, too. I have yet to compile my wish list for Autumn, but I'm starting to get some ideas. I know I'll be wearing this cape a lot! What are you looking forward to wearing?

Styling Overalls: Now & Later

I've taken it up a notch and acquired a pair of full-blown overalls. Well, two actually. One denim and one velvety, black velour. I can't stop wearing them and I have a feeling I'll keep wearing them even when the weather gets colder. If you're not convinced yet, here are some points I'd like you to consider.

Style them NOW:

1. Pair them with a crop top

 This is the best way to wear both trends! If you're insecure about your stomach, the overall bib hides all that. Plus, the tight fitting fabric of the crop top and peek of skin balances out the relaxed slouch of the overalls

2. Wear a hat

A sun hat or baseball cap are both cute options.

3. Cuff  'em

I am not super tall, so I prefer my overalls cuffed. This also gives them a relaxed, boyfriend-jeans look and shows off the most slender part of your leg.

Style them LATER:

1. Collared shirts 4ever

A white, collared shirt is my favorite way to style overalls. This one has little blue polka dots that didn't show up as well as I'd hoped. They're a little girly without being too frilly.

2. Texture

Add layers of detail with a textured coat or scarf. It also makes the look more cozy on chilly days.

3. Another hat!

  A felted wool hat adds a bit of bohemian style and a lot of warmth.

4. Add elegance & height

Overalls are a lot like maxi dresses: when fitted right, they can make you look super tall and slender. Heels, obviously, will make this effect even more exaggerated. A pair of heeled booties would be even better (and warmer), but I don't own any :(
