Look of the Day: A taste of the tropics

As luck would have it, my day off was sunny, so I spent a good portion of it photographing things for Etsy, like this Hawaiian print dress. I can't wait till it's actually warm enough to wear things like this for longer than 15 minutes.

I almost didn't buy this dress when I found it at the thrift store. It requires me to do a lot of sucking in, but it photographs so beautifully!

Look of the Day: Floral Blouse & Striped Shorts

I'm kinda freaking out guys. I have less than two weeks left of my twenties! That means less than two weeks of still being able to pretend I'm just a dumb kid! Thirty is when you really become an adult, right?

This past year has been exciting, but also kind of hard. My dog's death was a harder blow than I wanted it to be, and I've been struggling to get myself back to normal. I've been pretty sedentary, to say the least. It's catching up to me, in pounds, and I usually wouldn't mind, but I know it's because I've been kind of melancholy. What you've got here is a bonafide emotional eater!

I don't want to end my twenties in a bad mood. Just in time, two of my favorite bloggers wrote about self love, body appreciation, and positive mindset. Dana of Do the Hotpants, addresses body image with wit & honesty (she addresses pretty much everything this way). And I feel like Natasha of The Chic Curve pretty much wrote this post on positive mindset with me in mind. Okay, fine, maybe she was talking about herself. Anyway, both posts really perked me up, and I think this milestone will be the last little kick-start I need.

Look out for birthday pictures to come. I have lots of ideas for a party, but I'm kind of running out of time to plan. As always. I have a pinboard going, so that's a start. The theme is rocks & dinosaurs. Ha ha hahaha, get it?

Things: Current Favorites

Who know's what my favorite things will be next week, but here are my current obsessions:

I've just discovered JCPenney's shoe department. I'm impressed by both the selection and the ridiculously-low sale prices. These sandals are $13.99 right now! They're crazy comfortable, too.

Probably my biggest skin care splurge to date, but I've decided my beauty mantra is "Face and feet". I want to take good care of both, so while I have the money, I'm gonna do just that! Argan oil is kind of a miracle serum. It's soothed my itchy, irritated skin (too much make-up? Laundry detergent? Who knows). I use a drop on dry hair to enhance shine and tame flyaways, and it's also healed my split cuticles. Nuff said.

This lipstick is almost neon in real life. It looks much more sensible in the picture. I love it either way.

From The Confectionery in University Village. Just slightly fruity, soft, but not super gummy like a gum drop. They're quite pleasant. I had them at my wedding reception and they're one of the few things I paid full price for.

I bought this necklace off Chictopia a couple months ago. I wasn't sure how to style it at first, mostly because I find jewelry to be overwhelming. Now I've decided to just wear it with everything. Why not, right? It's a total conversation starter.

Look of the Day: Bare Shoulders

I see a pattern emerging. I bought this blouse back in January sometime. It was too cold to wear it, but I've been thinking about it ever since. I've also been looking for more like it, and really anything in an off-shoulder style. I plan on wearing it for the rest of the summer. You will probably get sick of it.

The other day I was "Facetiming" with my mom and had two bits of news to announce. First, I bought Birkenstocks! Her response was "You bought WHAT?" I'm pretty sure I bemoaned my parents' choice of footwear my entire childhood, so I understand. I did own a pair of the close-toe Birkentstock after high school, but now I've switched over to the classic Arizona style. I wandered into Nordrstom to check out their annual sale and found these amazingly comfortable soft footbed Birks instead! They're a little trickier to style than I expected, but I've been gathering ideas from blogs like The Chic Curve and pins like this one! Even thought I'm still working out what to wear them with, I'm so glad I'll have them for my trip to New York.

That's my other bit of news! I can't give many details, but trust me, you'll be hearing about it!

Look of the Day: Jersey Mini Dress

Uff da! Work has been rough. I ended my week of emotional eating with relative self-control on Super Bowl Sunday. I mean, I didn't feel completely sick. I made the most delicious green & blue cupcakes and managed to eat only 3 yesterday!

I'm not the biggest sports fan. Really, I'm your classic Seattle 'fair weather fan,' but any time my city is happy, I'm happy. Also, that was a really good game, so it wasn't torture to sit through. The best part was watching it with a bunch of awesomely funny people. How did you spend the "holiday"?

Once again, you can buy pretty much everything in this outfit! The bag and shoes aren't listed yet, but the floral jersey dress is and the belt is on sale!

Look of the Day: Floral Jacket + Red Crop Top

I ordered this abstract floral jacket from Oasap just in the nick of time. It sold out almost immediately! I'm so glad to have it, because it fits amazingly and looks great with just about everything. If you're interested, keep an eye on the site, because sometimes they restock things.

I feel like I owe American Deadstock an apology for my impatient thoughts. I redeemed a pair of their sunglasses on Chictopia in June and after two or three emails, finally received them in the mail. Well, they sent me not one, but three pairs of glasses which more than makes up for the delay. So generous! Am I right? Oh, also, they're awesome sunglasses!
